If filing Jointly with your spouse, can you put the cost of living expenses solely under one person or do you need to split it equally or does it just not matter?

What "cost of living" expenses are you referring to?

If you are filing a joint return, everything goes on the same tax return.   You are preparing ONE tax return for the two of you.   There will be spots on the software income screens for you to enter income for each spouse so look carefully as you go through the software and make sure you enter income under the right spouse.  By the time it ends up on the Form 1040 it will all be one amount.
