E-file rejected due to ForeignTaxesPaidOrAccruedDt on Form 1116

I've just spent over an hour on the phone with support and they can't seem to figure out the issue. To the point where they said they would escalate to 'second level' and then dropped the call. @olsonep you seem to have the exact same scenario I do. Foreign income from a high-tax country. Have you had any luck getting yours e-filed? Found this thread where the pro's even look to be hitting this problem: Re: Form 1116 efile error - Intuit Accountants Community

E-file rejected due to ForeignTaxesPaidOrAccruedDt on Form 1116

I wish Turbotax had a way to inform you when a problem is resolved.  In the meantime I will follow this thread until I am forced to file a paper copy.  I have tried the solutions offered but none of them worked.

E-file rejected due to ForeignTaxesPaidOrAccruedDt on Form 1116

I spent over 2 hours talking to three different people from the custom support and none of them seem to be aware of such issue, which surprised me given this thread was post a week ago and followed by so many of us also experienced the same error.

Now I am really just hoping they are working on resolving this issue for us.

Per the accountant thread.

You don't need to report income
passed through from a mutual
fund or other regulated
investment company (RIC) on a
country-by-country basis. Total all
income, in the applicable category,
passed through from the mutual fund or
other RIC and enter the total in a single
column in Part I. Enter “RIC” on line i.

I changed Various to RIC.   This also required checking the box that income was from a mutual fund on the 1099-DIV worksheet Box 8.

Resubmitted and it was REJECTED.

I still have had no luck. I keep trying. I would really like to e-file.

My dates has always been "12/31/2020" (entered on the 1116 worksheet, used on the 1116 and 1116 "AMT", double checked on the printed copy.)  I have tried at least 10 different dates, just to see.

They really need to fix this now.

Piling on here, I have the same issue with Form 1116, I keep going through the interview and trying different options, but it's been rejected by the IRS 4 times now.

I called TT support and they said to clear the cache or try a different browser, but that didn't work.

It does seem like an issue TT could fix, even if it's a change on the IRS end that caused it. Surely there are thousands of users using Form 1116 that is affected.

My error is different.

/Return/ReturnData/IRS1116/ForeignTaxCreditSource/USTaxWithheldOnDividendAmt - Data in the return is missing or invalid. Please double check your entries.

I was on the support line also. The support person couldn't find anything wrong with my form 1116, however she said that the next update to forms with IRS in March 11. She suggested that I try to efile on Mar 12 and if it fails again call back.

When I was doing research online I saw a similar post with the same error message as yours, that post is in a resolved state and with the following workaround, although it is not applicable to the error we have in this thread here but maybe worthwhile for you to take a look. I copied here for your reference. Good luck.

Solution: view your form 1116 for year 2020 in form view mode and override manually  value "various" to date 12/31/2020. This is a date field and should contain date value. Last year this field was populated by turbox correctly.

My guess here is that each investment house is reporting their 1099 numbers to the IRS in a slightly different fashion. The IRS is comparing these numbers to the TT eFile submission, and in some cases it's OK, and other cases it's not OK. What's missing from some of the threads above is the source of the 1099. My solution outlined above worked for me with TD Ameritrade as the 1099 source. It may not work for 1099s from Fidelity or Schwab, etc.  So name names: for those of you still frustrated, who is your 1099 source? Same for those of you who have been successful.

Clearly the IRS has turned up the gain on this way too far. They want us to eFile, but then put in stupid barriers that prevent us from doing so. There may be no single TT solution that works for every one, unless Intuit takes the 1099 source into account, and tailors their submission accordingly...

vident, that is actually the error message I had, and changing the date manually in the form from various to 12/31/2020 worked.

I'll add that in the past, I have never used the interview for Form 1116. This year, I thought I would try it. Everything ended up so messed up that I deleted the 1116s and started over, manually linking from the K-1 and 1099-DIV.

Just to add more info, was on phone with support for probably at total of 5 hours with turboxtax level 2's.  They are aware of the issue and there is currently no fix or workaround.  I have tried everything, deleting and recreating 1116 to no avail.

I only have dividends and the reporting institution is Fidelity.  I downloaded into turbotax directly from Fidelity.

are they working on a fix for us?

For the "ForeignTaxesPaisOrAccuredDt" error, it does not seem like this could be caused by "wrong" amounts. This error message is clearly referring to a specific XML schema field while parsing the e-file data. "Dt" is date.

It is possible that some import of a 1099 brings the date in wrong/right/different  (without the field checking of TT).  For some people that have the date imported as a text field, changing it to 12/31/2020 can fix their problem.

I'm in the group where the data was not imported at all. I entered foreign taxes paid for my salary and it shows up in 1116 Comp Wks. That data goes into Form 1116 (COPY 1) and Form 1116 AMT (COPY 1). The date has always been 12/31/2020 and this is rejected.

are they working on a fix for us

It's probably safe to assume that they are. There are, no doubt, analytics that surface that tell them why efilings are getting rejected and they should notice an unusual number related to Form 1116 to cause them to look further. Meanwhile, are you sure you have tried the following? If all of your foreign tax is reported on forms 1099-DIV for a mutual fund from an RIC, then:

1) Try to avoid using imported data. I do a compare of imported data one source at a time with manually input data to see if there are any discrepancies (i.e. does tax owed/refund change). But I file with the manually input forms.

2) Again if all your foreign tax is from RIC as passive income, don't separate over multiple 1116s and no need to have  multiple columns per payer on a single 1116. The columns are for the scenario of multiple countries, not payers, and your country here is "RIC".

3) In the 1116 Comp Wks Part II under Date, enter 12/31/2020. You will not need to override to do this. Do not override on Form 1116.

4) Using File/Preview (desktop product), examine the actually Form 1116 that would be filed if filing paper. Forms View, despite its name, doesn't allow you to view the form (and in online product, there isn't a form view I don't think). Verify that "12/31/2020" is there in Part II for each "country" column you used. This should not be "Various" or "RIC", although "Various" has been correct in years past.

I can't guarantee these steps will be successful for you. I'm only saying these were the steps I took to get past this issue.

Yes, this is exactly my problem as well. No data import involved here. I've now tried both the online version and the desktop version (opening Forms view and overwriting the date from mm/dd/yyyy to mm/dd/yy) and keep getting rejected.
