the question that I can't answer is if those requirements cover 2025.
I am going to add to the huge list of unsatisfied loyal customers. TurboTax managers, please consider these messages as your customers asking you to support Windows 10.
I have been using TurboTax for more than 25 years. If I have to download the software instead of buying a disc that is fine as long as it is the desktop version. Do not want to upload all my financial data to the online version.
I have a desktop running Windows 10 in which I have replaced every piece of hardware except for the hard drive, because I do not want to have to reinstall all my programs. I even replaced the power supply. However, this computer still cannot be upgraded to Windows 11.
So I either have to buy another computer just to use TurboTax or I have to stop using TurboTax. This is a choice I should not have to make. As a software engineer, I know you could easily support Windows 10 forever, just like other companies support even older versions of Windows. Windows 10 is just 1 version back, is not like Windows XP or 7 which people are still using and still works.
Why is nobody paying attention to the instructions on how to upgrade to Windows 11 on a non compliant computer? You can Google for instructions on the hack, or simply use the "setupprep.exe/Product Server" from the Windows 11 install software under the Sources folder . After doing your taxes, if preferring to use Windows 10, just revert back once your taxes are done. I've installed on a 2009 Laptop and other non compliant computers. Note: Older computers you have to use Windows 11 23H2. Newer models 24H2. Easy Peasy !!
You are right I had one system that originally came with 11 that I immediately down graded to 10.
So, I reinstalled 11 using Rufus, and I had to reinstall every piece of software an extremely long process to go through after the extremely long process of in stalling 11 itself.
After this i consider Turbo Tax a *VERY* tarnished Gold Standard of personal tax prep.
I have enjoyed using TurboTax since 1994. I like my tax information to be private and so will not use an online version. I will get extended support for Windows 10 which is very inexpensive ($30 or 1000 Microsoft points). If Intuit sticks with this plan, I will unfortunately have to switch to another program.
I can't stand TurboTax!!! They are the most expensive software that I ever have to purchase because you only use it once. Now, they have dropped ItsDeductible and are ending support for Windows 10. They are the only reason that I have ever had to upgrade a computer. Time for H&R Block!
Note the following!! Re Windows 11 new version 25H2 coming soon.
Upgrading from Windows 10, or versions of Windows 11 prior to 24H2 requires upgrading to 24H2 first, then upgrading again to 25H2. Happy upgrading !! (Re the Hack - currently unknown until I get it. Will only be able to Hack to the 23H2 or 24H2 and prevented from 25H2?)
Windows 10 has extended support through 2026. Turbotax should do the same.
ESU is not extended support it's just security patches classified as critical/important to keep your machine secure from those threats until you upgrade, the OS is otherwise unsupported and not fully protected. ESU isn't news and Intuit has been decisioning this for a while with this known, shifting from "may restrict" message most of the year to confirm "will not work"; see if anything changes the next couple of months but it's unlikely they will reverse course at this point and support s/w on an unsupported OS for what will be a small % of their user base and revenue.
You are correct, so far TT is the only software I have that won't be supported on Windows 10 and 11. Like I said earlier, unless TT is getting down to a new Windows 11 low level system software function not in 10- there is no reason for this requirement. I don't see them using these kind of functions in an application like TT. They are doing this for other reasons and just putting in code to reject 10.
So I guess we will go elsewhere or just do it manually- not that hard just have to pull out the old calculator.
Can anyone point to specific information, that H&R Block 2025 will be Windows 10 compatible? Their web site is a real cheeseball. By that I mean, it looks like they paid someone $300 to throw up a bunch of giant graphics and a "buy it" button at the bottom. No useful information there, whatsoever. If you click "buy H&R Block" it doesn't even tell you what software version you're buying. (Golly, that would create annual web site maintenance!)
If you buy H&R from their page today, you get the 2024 version. You have to intuit that. (See what I did there?)
If not H&R Block, I guess I'm in the ballpoint pen camp, from now on. I'm not installing 3GB of AI spyware on my PC in the form of Win 11. Heck no.
It's not that my taxes are hard, and I learned arithmetic in 5th grade. It just makes me grumpy, dealing with vague IRS instructions on what goes in the little boxes on the forms. It's worth $50-$75 to me, to use a computer interface. If that's no longer an option, that's too bad.
Apparently H&R Rated # 1 - unfortunately last year many complaints re H&R and Revenue Canada requiring additional taxes due to scammers getting into the process and RC wanting more tax monies - sometimes in the thousands. Assume corrected for this coming year?
See this post about H&R Block.
Per post "no commitment". Will have to wait and see. Most likely when they post a Pre Order page.

Good list.
But, Taxact is expensive. Their Basic is limited in what it can do (per their site)

Scroll down to see the "Compare"
State is $60.00
FreeTaxUSA (owned by TaxHawk) is free except State returns are $15.00 (as of now) and returns are saved online.
With the latest Windows 10 update I was offered Win 10 support thru October 2026 free of charge. One click and done. I sincerely hope Intuit gets the message and rescinds their tragic decision to discontinue desktop TT beginning with the 2025 tax year. If not, I guess it's back to paper forms for me.
