Does Tippecanoe County INDIANA tax Social Security and Pension income from benefits earned in another state?

Just moved to Indiana from NM. Indiana Department of Revenue has ignorant representatives — they don’t know.

The state of Indiana does not tax Social Security benefits.  As for your pension income--maybe.   When you enter your income into your federal return, the information will flow to your state return.   The software will use all of the state's tax laws to determine whether your pension is taxable in IN.   You have provided no details about your pension.   The fact that you earned the income in another state is not relevant.   If you live in IN you will be subject to the state tax laws of the state of IN.

And, from what I was seeing on the IN tax forms for 2021, the county taxes exactly the same sources of retirement income that the state does.....i.e. assesses the tax on the calculated Indiana AGI value.

(part year tax returns can be a mess...so don't wait until the last minute to start working on them....but don't bother starting before mid Feb of 2023, since all the forms are rarely ready until after that....and minor bugs continuously after that.   Mid-late March is usually safe for final filing)
