I have my checks for the 2nd and 3rd economic impact payments. The page in TT states the 3rd payment occurred in March-May 2021 but my 3rd check is dated 09/17/2021. The amount of my 3rd check differs greatly (is much less) than the amount TT predicts, but again, it is dated 9/17/2021. My 2nd check is dated 03/26/2021 and is much closer (though still less) than what TT predicts. The conflict seems to be between the dates called out and whether or not they are associated with the 2nd or 3rd payment. If I get it wrong, I am threatened with a delay in money owed me (predicted by TT).  Can someone please explain the apparent discrepancy?

The check dates you entered don't precisely correspond with any payment dates but you have almost certainly received the stimulus payments out of order.  Which happens.  You need to double check the amount the IRS says that you received.  Instructions to do that are here. 

You should also receive a letter from the IRS before March with the total payments that you received detailed on it.  Failing all else you may want to wait for that letter before you file.  Getting this number wrong will delay processing of your return for 6 months.

The 3rd Stimulus max is $1,400 per person.   2,800 for married.  Is your 2021 income less than last year 2020?   They sent the checks out using your 2020 return but it is really based on 2021.  So you can get the difference now.

Thanks. So the government made a mistake and I get to make up for it. Figures.  I guess I will wait until March now since I will likely guess wrong due to their mistake.  No one can convince me this isn't done knowingly by our 'government'.  I do honestly appreciate the information you provided though, and apologize for my obvious disgust.

I just want to file my taxes but they want to make it difficult.

I apologize for my abrasive attitude, but I am done with this.  I will begin filing with paper only from now on.
