Does anyone else think that it is highly suspect that Intuit charges us or makes us pay for a current year's return in order to access a prior year's tax return?

There are no charges to access a prior year online tax return.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

See this TurboTax support FAQ for accessing prior year online tax returns - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/01/270...

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

You are wrong.  If I do not pay for a product to file 2019 taxes I cannot access prior year returns. That, mind you, I have already paid for in the year filed.  In order to  access a prior year return you have to pay for a new suite of Turbotax product.

I did all the steps you suggest and it asks me for a credit card first.....so, this leads to me to believe they are asking me to pay.

Where are you being asked to pay for a 2019 TurboTax edition to access the prior year online tax return?

What happens when you sign onto TurboTax account with the exact same User ID you use to create the online account?

Can you download a PDF of your tax return using this procedure?

Yes, I have all those prompts, but once I select it, I am told to start new new return for 2019 and pay for a new product.  Or I can access my document using the side tab where I am directed to pay $30 to have Intuit keep my documents secure and then I can access.  Lastly I can download all the account info I have with Turbotax/Intuit which will take up to 45 days.  It's great!  Pay, pay, or wait.  Thanks Intuit. That sure sounds as if you have more than one User ID and the one you are using is not the one you used for the prior year returns.

Close all TurboTax windows on your web browser (including this one).  Copy and paste the account recovery website link onto a new web browser window and run the tool.

Use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of all the user ID's for an email address.  Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery

If none of the user ID's received will access your account, then use the option shown in blue on the account recovery website, "Try something else"

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.
