I need to know how to file my taxes. I am disabled and receive social security payments, which are under $25,000 for the year.
My minor daughter also draws social security checks off of me because of me being disabled each month, $975 dollars. My question is, How do I claim her on my taxes when she draws a social security check. What is the proper way ? or do I file her own taxes for her? She is only 10 years old.
thank you, Thomas Stewart

Do not enter anything about your child's SSA1099 on your own return. Someday when she has income from a job, etc. she can file a tax return and then she will also enter that SS income on her own return. It does not go on your return. Claim your child as a dependent on your tax return so that you get the child tax credit and --if you did not receive it yet--the 3rd EIP for claiming her.
Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter your SSA1099.
If your daughter has no other income, you don't need to file taxes for her (she is not required to file one).
If you provided more than one-half of your daughter's financial support, you still can claim her on your tax return. If you are not legally married, you can file as Head of Household if you maintained the home for your dependent(s).
thanks much
The problem I have is, claiming child tax credits or ever receiving any for my daughter < for me raising her and she lives with me.
I got divorced a couple of years ago and went to claim her for the credit. It came back that she has already been claimed for the credit by someone else. My ex-wife had claimed her without me knowing it. I am not sure what to do and how to stop all from her claiming my daughter on her taxes, she doesn't help out with my daughter or give support to her,
She did finally say she was recieving my daughter's monthly child credit each month last year. $300 month.
any suggestions on what steps to take to stop all?
