Tax return rejected 2017 AGI

Just filed my 2018 taxes as a single, and it was rejected because of 2017 AGI. My mom claims me as a dependent on her tax return. My 2017 AGI is correct but IRS rejected it, do they want my mom's AGI?

I filed 2017 tax returns and entered the correct 2917 AGI amount.

Okay.  So you are required to file a return.  My bet.  The best and fastest way to access the 2017 AGI is to order a transcript from the IRS.  Click here Get Transcript and select "Get Transcript Online " On the transcript, look under section "Adjustment to Income" and find the amount for Adjusted Gross Income.

No.  They do not.  If you did not file a 2017 tax return, your AGI would be zero.

Tax return rejected 2017 AGI

I filed my 2017 tax return by mail and i am sure it has not been entered into the IRS system yet but i have my AGI from that return.  Can i still efile my 2018 taxes or do i have to either mail it or wait for the IRS to enter my 2017 information?

@barnes561 If you mailed your 2017 return recently then your 2017 AGI will not be in the system any time soon, so forget about trying to use it to e-file 2018.  Try using zero for your 2018 AGI.  If zero does not work then you will have to print, sign and mail your 2018 return.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
