I know the IRS is severely backlogged, and nobody can answer definitively on how long it will be for me. Basically, I had to amend my 2019 return due to not using the correct adjusted cost basis on a small stock sale. This resulted in me overpaying by ~$1k . The 'where's my amended return' reported having received my amended return in the middle of March 2021. Today, however, it finally moved over to "Adjusted" Status. I am wondering approximately how long it has taken others to receive their mailed check once their return entered "adjusted" status. Is the money not mailed until it enters a completed status? I guess I am bit confused.

I would like to tell you an exact time line however the IRS is not following any of their normal published time lines and those who have posted reported a variety of days. All you really can do is check the IRS site every few days until you see a change in the progress report.
Also log into your IRS account for more detailed information : https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account
first your return has to go to completed status.
Then in a month or two you will get a letter saying what they did and asking you to agree.
After that you wait some more for the actual check.
this could be another month or more.
Thank you. I didn't see anything related to my amended return when I logged into my IRS account.
It mentioned that I would get a letter within 3 weeks explaining what was adjusted, etc. Is this something different?
I guess I really should expect another, I dunno, 5-6 months at least before I get my check.
