This isn't really a tax question, it's a tech support question, I just need to know where to go to get help.
I've used Online TT for years but this year I ran into a sticky problem and someone on Reddit said why not buy the desktop version. So I bought Home and Business from Amazon and downloded and installed it. I’ve started it and first thing, I’ve run into a big bad problem.
One of our biggest incomes is from a job my wife has with a foreign student company. They pay her as a 1099 contractor so we get a 1099-NEC form every year. This year it’s about $30,000 of income!
So I started by entering the info from that form, with the company name, its federal ID number, the amount in Box 1, and that’s it – that’s all the boxes on the form with anything in them. I know I entered everything correctly.
I clicked Continue, and the next page says Form 1099-NEC Summary and “Here’s what we have so far”. BUT THERE’S NOTHING THERE. It’s just a blank box saying “Untitled” in the title bar.
There’s nothing there! I click Continue again (I only have one 1099-NEC) And it shows “Business Income Reported to you on Form 1099-NEC” with amount $0.
Any suggestion? Unfortunately Amazon basically says you can't return it, etc etc
???!!!

You can use the Forms menu option to display the form 1099-NEC you entered and if there is missing information, you can enter it directly on the form in most instances. You'll see the forms icon on the top right of your screen. Just double click your mouse on the form to display it:
you may have missing entering info need to link this to schedule C. if you're using desktop H&B switch to forms mode. go to the 1099-NEC and you'll see under box 1 the lines to link to either schedule C or F
only needed if there is nothing there. if it is linked I can't explain the issue.
OK, I see the Form version of the 1099-NEC. On that, the amount for Box 1 is correctly entered. And below the amount I see it is linked to Schedule C, which is how it's always been in Online TT.
But when I switch back to Step-by-Step, it still says 0 for 2024 1099-NEC Income.
In places, it says to not bother with boxes that are empty or $0.
Still a puzzle!
