when do i tell turbo tax about the deceased filer
In the initial few interview screens TurboTax will have a question for each taxpayer on the return that will read "Do any of these apply to "Taxpayer"?
One of the options here is "Passed away before filing this return". Select this checkbox to enter the date of death and continue the return. The additional details that will be required will depend on the filing status of the return (joint or individual), but TurboTax will walk you through this.
Fred Rachide’s birthday is 10/18/1946. His death is 02/06/2021.
If you are filing by mail and not by e-file, how does the information indicating my spouse is deceased and the date of death, get to the IRS. Should I just write deceased and his date of death where his signature belongs on the 1040. I am his executor.
It will print DECEASED and the date at the very top of the 1040.
