For SC (not Federally), is a homeschooling parent eligible for the Classroom Teacher Expenses Credit?

Per this excerpt from the South Carolina Department of Education, you would need to be a certified teacher, counselor or similar individual to qualify for the Teacher Supplies credit:

Thank you for your quick reply.

That is why I questioned it, the section highlighted is speaking about a reimbursement from the state.  The section regarding the tax credit is listed below that and states in part:

"Any classroom teacher, including a classroom teacher at a South Carolina private school, that is not
eligible for the reimbursement allowed by this provision, may claim a refundable income tax credit on the
teacher’s 2015 tax return, provided that the return or any amended return claiming the credit is filed prior
to the end of the fiscal year."

The official form does not seem to be any help either: https://dor.sc.gov/forms-site/Forms/I360_2024.pdf

Every website including the official one states:

The problem would appear that no one has a listed definition of what is considered a "classroom teacher".  The closest I can find is SECTION 59-1-130. "Teacher" defined. "Teacher" means any person who is employed either full-time or part-time by any school district either to teach or to supervise teaching. This does not however provide a definition of a "classroom teacher".

The same code does not define what home schooling is and in fact only mentions home schooling in making up lost days.

I do have an email into the Department of Revenue, so maybe they can provide the legal answer since the law form is vague at best.

Yes, you will have to contact the Department of Revenue for a determination as to whether you qualify as a teacher for purposes of the credit.
