Charles Schwab import error -"select at least one account to link"

Anyone know how to solve the problem after using turbotax to open a new window to import data, it asks for the password - which works fine.  Then I have to select an account to link - and I have none in the list.  Charles Schwab don't see any problem with it on their end (they have toll free international numbers).

I would prefer not to call the turbotax hotline as I am not in the US... so I don't really wan to rack up a huge phone bill listening to music. 🎶

Oh... this worked perfectly last year.  I also have 3rd party access allowed too!

Although you mentioned that you do have 3rd party access allowed, please review the following FAQ: 1099 Import Issues.

I have the same problem and trying to resolve now with Schwab.  Note that I am not in the USA, I have a non-USA address and, as a result, my account is managed by Schwab Intl (and not Schwab USA). In my opinion, the issue is NOT a technology issue (it has nothing to do with IP address, VPN, browser, account names,  etc). I know this because someone else in my household uses my same laptop and has no problem importing from their Schwab USA account directly into TT.  Whereas I get the same msg as you, "select at least one account". I think the issues is how Schwab Intl sets my account - likely to do with a flag dis-enabling the ability to share with third-parties (even though, in my account profile, the ability is enabled).  Separately, while I wait, I downloaded tax pdf forms from Schwab; however, I am only able to upload 1099INT and DIV into TT.  I am unable to upload 1099B (which is the most complicated) because TT does not seem to have the option to upload for Shares (only for INT and DIV).  I will post here if there is a resolution

If import does not go smooth, I will suggest to manually enter info.  If there are too many transactions, try to sum up between long term and short term.  You might still be able to e-file.  Here are the steps:

In TurboTax online,

  • Sign into your account, select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in 1099b and Enter
  • Select Jump to 1099b
  • Follow prompts
  • On-screen, "Let's import your tax info, select I'll type it myself
  • Follow prompts to continue

A Form 1099-B is issued to report the proceeds from your stocks and bonds transactions.  The transactions will generate either a long term or short term capital gain or loss depends on how long the stocks are being held.  The amount will be reported on line 7 of your Form 1040 along with a Schedule D and Form 8949.

Thanks. Yes, I can enter it (and everything else) manually: however, that would completely defeat the purpose of paying for TurboTax.  TurboTax, not the user, needs to ensure that import can work.  Having said that, I may need to go with your suggestion given that TurboTax is not responding - thank you.

I have exactly the same issue as you.  I'm also not in the US at this moment.  Very frustrating.

If that is not the case, you may wish to enter in your information manually.

Here's where you enter your 1099-B in TurboTax:

  1. Open (continue) your return if it isn't already open.
  2. In TurboTax, search for 1099-B and then select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. Answer Yes to Did you sell stocks, mutual funds, bonds, or other investments in 2019? If you see Here's the info we have for these investment sales, select Add More Sales.
  4. Answer Yes to Did you get a 1099-B or brokerage statement for these sales?
  5. At Let's get your tax info, choose type it in yourself.
  6. Follow the instructions.

Here's how to enter your 1099-DIV in TurboTax Online:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. Search for 1099-DIV and select the Jump to link in your search results.
  3. Answer Yes to Did you receive any dividend income?
  4. Choose your bank or brokerage from the list to import your 1099-DIV and select Continue or manually enter your 1099-DIV  by selecting I'll type it in myself.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your 1099-DIV.

Here's how to enter a 1099-INT:

  1. Open (continue) your return if it's not already open.
  2. Inside TurboTax, search for 1099-INT and select the Jump to link in the search results.
  3. Answer Yes to Did you receive any interest income? If you see Here's the interest we have so far, select Add interest income.
  4. On the following screen, select how you want to enter your 1099-INT and follow the on-screen instructions.

Charles Schwab import error -"select at least one account to link"

Since so many people (me too) are having this error, I assume that the *Employee Tax Experts* who read this thread have reported the issue and tried to follow up to ensure it will be fixed. The pace of improvements with this software does not seem commensurate to the size of the company. In fact, lately, with each year, we seem to have ever more of these problems.

Charles Schwab import error -"select at least one account to link"

Today, March 8, the import worked for TurboTax Windows desktop version.

It did not work yesterday.

I do not know if something was fixed, but I did the following:

1) after loading TurboTax, I logged into TurboTax.

2) (a) opened a browser (Microsoft Edge) and logged into TurboTax online

    (b) opened a new tab (not a new window) and logged into Schwab.

in Schwab I chose to "remember device".

    (c) in Schwab I went to SecurityCenter|ThirdPartyAccessToAccountInformation  - Confirmed third party checked

    (d) in Schwab I went to SecurityCenter|ThirdPartyAccessToAccountInformation - clicked on "TurboTax" arrow and selected both "current Schwab brokerage accounts" and "Automatically link...."

3) (a) Went back to TurboTax windows desktop application and opened current tax file

    (b) selected Schwab for import and followed directions to log in.   A screen to accept legal terms came up which I accepted (not reading since not a lot of choice in declining), and import worked.

    (c) checked import and totals matched pdf of 1099 I downloaded from Schwab site.

......Note on Step 2:
I did this because the TurboTax import popup for Schwab, and comments from other replies, implies a browser is happening behind the scenes to link TurboTax and Schwab.

Edge is my preferred browser in Windows settings. If Edge does not work, it might be due to a different preferred browser (like FireFox, or you have multiple browsers loaded on your PC.
So, if it does not work, open TurboTax and Schwab the same method in all the browsers on your PC.
