Charity Deductions

Hello,

According to IRS Publication 526, Charitable Contributions, individuals are not allowed to claim labor/time given to a nonprofit organization.

How about if I do contract work for a nonprofit organization, but I discount that work? Am I am able to write off the difference?

Thanks,

Matt

No.   Again---when you volunteer/give your time to a charitable organization, you cannot deduct anything for your time, labor, skill or expertise.  You can deduct any supplies, materials or mileage you paid for.
