The tax data file can only be opened by the TurboTax software for the year of the data file.

That doesn’t answer my question.  I prepared my 2020 return using turbo tax.  Now I can’t open the download.tax file because it says no application is available.  I need to prepare 2021 estimated tax forms, but apparently can’t do that until I am able to open the download.tax file.  I paid Turbo tax $110 to file returns and now don’t have access to those returns.  And now it takes 3 days to get a response that is useless. This kind of lack of support is unacceptable Please call me at [phone number removed] so that this issue can be resolved.  Never had this problem last year.  Never had this problem with Tax.Act.

Did you use the Online web Turbo Tax version that you log into and has a black menu bar down the left side?  Or did you use the Desktop CD/Download program that you install on a computer?

If you used the Online version you need to log into your account.  Then Click on Add a State to let you back into your return.  

Or ask support for the Desktop program download to open the .tax2020 file.  Or download the pdf instead of the .tax file.
