Joint return
My wife and I are Maryland residents since 7/1/2020 so partial year return.
We are both 61 years old.
She receives a teacher's pension from New York State.
She is totally disabled.
Turbotax never asks if she is disabled.
Turbotax never offers or discusses the Maryland Pension Exclusion.
It seems like we should eligible for it per this Maryland website:
https://www.marylandtaxes.gov/individual/income/filing/pension-exclusion.php
Yes: She is less than 65 years old BUT she is totally disabled and so is eligible.
The New York State teacher's pension is reported by a 1099-R that was entered by hand into my federal return - so Maryland's return should have access to all of that information.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You will need to calculate the amount of the exclusion (based on % of time of residence in Maryland) of your wife's pension income.

Hello Marilyn,
1: Thank you for the prompt response.
2: Thank you for clarifying that, as a partial year resident, I must prorate the maximum exclusion.
3: It follows that I will also only include the pension amount actually received while in Maryland.
Here is the problem:
While I know what information to enter, I have no way to ENTER the information.
You provided a link that said to first enter the Maryland state software in step by step mode, search for 502SU and then use the "goto" link provided. This goto link would be, I suppose, the first search result, right? But I did not get the goto link.
Some notes:
1: I am using windows downloaded version.
2: I tried searching for "502SU" and also "502su".
Maryland Pension Exclusion is on form 502R, not 502SU.
Please clarify:
Are you suggesting that I manually enter the values I need to enter on line 11 on 502R and also line 10 on 502?
Please advise.
Yes, you can manually enter the value you calculated for the Maryland Pension Exclusion in Forms Mode.
