Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. If your child was born in 2021make sure you said he lived with you the whole year. There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support. Say NO to that question.
The software will add the recovery rebate credit to line 30 automatically when you enter the child in My Info. It will also put the CTC on line 28

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.
My line 30 is blank on my return and I answered the questions appropriately. I don't know of any reason I wouldn't get this rebate? Any ideas why it would be blank?
Yes you can get it for a child born in 2021 unless your income is too high or you already got it for someone you aren't claiming this year. So it would be a wash.
Be sure you said the new baby lived with you the WHOLE YEAR! Go back and check that.
If you had a child born in 2021- Add them under My Info. You need to answer 2 questions…..
Did your child live with you for the whole year? Answer YES even if they were born late in the year (even on Dec 31).
Then was at least half of child's expenses paid by CHILD? Usually is NO.
My wife and I have a total income of less than $80,000 before taxes and I doubled checked those answers and still nothing. I didn't claim any independents last year or other recovery rebates.
Sometimes it helps to just delete the child from My Info and then enter the child again. Try that and see if it makes a difference.
Did you see the screen that asks how much you already got? We assume you got the full 2,800 (1,400x2) back in March-May? Did you enter 2,800?
Is your baby showing up as a dependent at the top of your 1040? Check if you accidentally marked that you or your spouse was a dependent. Can't think of anything else that would disallow it.
Where do I see if I checked that me and or my wife was an independent. I have done everything including talking to support and no one seems to know. My son is in the independent box and no one else.
You mean you son is in the DEPENDENT box? Then which box is checked on the right side? Child Tax Credit or Other Dependent? Don't mix up Independent with Dependent.
Check all your answers for everyone under My Info.
I give up. Thanks for the help. I don't understand why I wouldn't get it. I've checked everything you all have told me but nothing is working. I've went over everything twice.
One at a time----delete your own information in My Info and enter it again. Go through the screens very slowly and very carefully. Make sure you do not say someone else can claim you as a dependent.
Next do that with your spouse's information. Slowly. Slowly. Make sure you did not say she can be claimed as someone else's dependent.
Last---delete your child. Re-enter him. Slowly. Slowly. Say he lived with you the WHOLE year. Enter his Social Security number. When it asks if he paid over half his own support say NO.
I have the same issue. I had a child in August of 2021, but line 30 is blank. I'm sure I answered all of the questions correctly. Seems this is an issue with Turbo Tax software. I have already filed, so will I have to file an amended return?
@Benrad Does your income exceed the limit to receive the 3rd EIP payment?
Generally, if you’re a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien, you are eligible for $1,400 ($2,800 for a joint return), plus $1,400 for each qualifying dependent, if you (and your spouse if filing a joint return) aren’t a dependent of another taxpayer on a 2020 tax return, have a valid Social Security number (SSN) (see exception when married filing jointly and exception for qualified dependents) and your adjusted gross income (AGI) does not exceed:
Payments will be phased out – or reduced -- above those AGI amounts. This means taxpayers will not receive a third payment if their AGI exceeds:
For example, a single person with no dependents and an AGI of $77,500 will normally get a $700 payment (half the full amount). A married couple with two dependents and an AGI of $155,000 will generally get a payment of $2,800 (again, half the full amount). Filers with AGI of at least $80,000 (single and married filing separately), $120,000 (head of household) and $160,000 (married filing joint and surviving spouse) will get no payment based on the law.
You aren’t eligible for a payment if any of the following apply:
Also, payments will not be made to estates or trusts or for individuals who died before January 1, 2021.
No, not even close. Like I said, I'm certain I have answered all questions appropriately. I received the normal child tax credit for the newborn, so I don't understand how it was missed. I can provide a copy of my 1040 if needed.
No!!!! Do not post a copy of your 1040 in this public forum. If you somehow missed answering the questions in Federal Review and did not get the EIP payment--nothing on line 30---- then you can wait for your return to be fully processed and amend.
When you entered your child in My Info the software normally would add the EIP payment automatically for the child. Is something else going on? Did you claim some other child or dependent for 2020 that is not being claimed on your 2021 return?
