I charged my credit card for expenses for my husband's business. For example, he doesn't have a credit card and we had to rent a car and the company required a credit card to be on file so we had to use mine. He deposited money into our joint checking account to pay those credit card charges. Is this acceptable? What paper trail do we need?

Yes It is acceptable
The receipts issued by the car rental company in your husband's name are the paper trail for the business.
They put the rental in my name because my name is on the credit card.
You have the paper trail for the rental expenses including the receipts and the deposits that your husband made to the joint check account. The rental expenses are well documented.
