If you look back at the replies to this post and others on this topic you'll see some ways that people got it to work. For me it was part display settings and also pasting the activation code into a blank form that never fully displayed, then that process worked. But check for the other solutions and Intuit support also of course
I will save you 3 frustrating wasted days of calling tech support. I came up with the answer on my own 2 years ago when I had to purchase a Windows 10 laptop. I did not want to risk loading Windows 10 to my Windows 7 laptop that had processing capabilities built for 2012 technology. So simple: change your display settings and the activation screen will appear so you can type in the code:
On your computer, go to your Start box > Settings > System > Display. Scroll down to Display resolution. My default (recommended) setting was at 1920 x 1080. Scroll down all the way to 800 x 600 (or at least the last setting available) and then go back to activation. Just make sure that you go back to the recommended original setting or your computer display will magnified and unusable. Hope this is the same problem I encountered.
My suggestion: get your money back and use other software.
I made an arrangement with Turbo Tax in September that if their software had the same issues as last year that I get a full refund, even if past 60 days. They honored that but only after trying to talk me into using the online version (which is restricted to one user so I cannot use for other family members). The tech support person was wonderful and in the discussion she disclosed that the software engineers cannot solve the problem. The get it solved on one computer/display driver only to have it crop up on other platforms. "It's like whack-a-mole". This display issue apparently occurs only on a minority of installations (I'm not sure I believe this) and if true then it isn't a priority for the engineering team.
Note, that activation is only the first place this problem shows up. During use, you won't be able to read other pop-ups like help/info boxes and you won't be able to file state taxes.
I recommend getting your money back and moving on.
I understand your frustration, and to a point I concur. However, Turbo Tax has been my go to tax program almost from its beginning when I was still reading everything about the new years taxes and pounding it out on paper forms. The workaround was successful and I was able to register the software and move on. I have completed one family members taxes with no other issues, and the screen phenomena did not happen again. I am almost through with my taxes, and still no additional problems.
Good to hear, did you have a problem filing State or haven't tried yet? Now that worries me. Also I'm not seeing the feature to import 1099B's into TTax Business. Very frustrating if its not here, I've done it for years with the personal versions.
What issue did you see with trying to file State returns? I've seen a couple blank help screens since getting it installed, otherwise I think its been ok. But not being able to eFile is a bad issue
I had to do the annoying work around to get activated.
Were you able to get your issue resolved?
The new video drivers from Intel fixed the pop-up problems including help screens, purchasing state and filing. (I had already done the work around for activation so not sure if drivers would have helped with that(
I had no issues when I efiled federal and Maine state tax returns. I also had no issues when doing the state taxes for Maine. The only issue I have had was with the installation and authorization initially.
Great! hopefully that will work for me and many others too
More details and assistance on the blank activation screen issue that you are having has been provided by clicking here.
I'm running Windows 11 Home, Version 21H2 and attempting to download the Turbo Tax Home and Business 2020 that I bought off Amazon.
The activation screen is blank
my drivers are up to date
my firewall is turned off
Please assist
Please see this Help Article for instructions on how to resolve blank screens during activation.
I and many others had this problem in 2022. The fix was to lower the screen resolution down to 1920x1080 or even less, e.g., 1280x1024. Others said that activation "worked" if they set scaling to 100%. (Scaling defaults to more than this on smaller high-resolution displays, e.g., 200% on my Surface Pro tablet). Some also had to paste their key into a pop-up window that they couldn't see.
This was a horrible Intuit TurboTax BUG in their 2021 installer, and I am VERY disappointed if it's still here in TurboTax 2022.
