The main advantage is the ability to log onto your account from any computer, anywhere at anytime.  Your return is stored on TT's server, so you don't have to worry about a computer crash, theft or loss.

Simple returns (1040-EZ and 1040A) can be done on online for Free.

Here's a FAQ I found.  But it is mainly for why you would need to use the CD.  Online can only do 1 return and state is extra.
