We are filing jointly as a married couple in the US as permanent resident.
Meanwhile we are still voluntarily contributing to the German public pension fund. Are these contributions deductible as they have been paid with after tax income and are comparable in nature to the US social security/old age insurance?
If so, how/where on my 1040?
Thank you!

No. Voluntary contributions to your public pension plan aren't tax deductible because there is no provision in the US/Germany tax treaty that allow for this contribution. In this article posted by the IRS, it states there are no cross border pension contributions unless specified by a treaty.
