I had filed a return for 2025 in which I asked that my refund be applied to my 2026 taxes.
When I created an amended return using form 1040-X and wanted to apply an additional refund to the 2026 return, the value never changed to 0 in the top where it shows the refund and the printed version did not show that application either.
The only way I could file the amended return now would be to select the Refund as the credit to my account.
Hi JohnB5677,
I have 2 questions. I am using Turbotax Deluxe desktop edition for MAC.
My first question is about 2025 Michigan Retirement and Pension Schedule (Form 4884). I have 2 IRAs from Fidelity, one is a regular IRA (distribution code 7) and the other is an Inherited IRA (distribution code 4). When the software populates Part 3: Retirement and Pension Benefits, it only lists the information from one account however when it populates the schedule W, 2025 Michigan Withholding Tax schedule Table 2, both accounts are listed.
My second question is from the Capital Asset Sales Entry Worksheet. When I was filling it out, a popup window appeared with instructions on where to mail in a statement with more details. However when I tried to print the window it disappeared. The instructions did not print with my return and I can no longer find it.
Thanks in advance for your help
Using Turbotax 2025 Online version
The following issues are since the March 6, 2026 update.....
Part II, Section A, lines 17a, b, and c
Answered "yes" to these questions, but Form 5695 is marking the "no" box for all three
Part II, Section B, line 29h
Is calculating the full amount on line 29g by 30%.
EX: line 29g is $2,170 x 30% = $651 on line 29h
However, the correct calculation is to cap line 29g to $2,000 and then multiply by 30%
EX: line 29g actual amt. is $2,170, is to be limited to $2,000, therefore $2,000 x 30% = $600
Turbox desktop version, Premier version.
Using Mac, OS 15.6.1

Trying to print out state of AZ tax forms. Uncheck Federal, Leaving State checked.
Prints only Federal. If I check both Federal and State, still only prints Federal

2024 and 2025 turbo tax is not using the Qualified Dividend and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet when there are qualified dividends. In my case this worksheet allows for lower taxes and, although I can open it, Turbo tax will not accept entries nor use it in the tax calculation. I suspect this error goes back further.
The Qualified Dividend and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet has always worked in TurboTax. Be sure to review all the forms and worksheets since it appears you are using TurboTax Desktop. If you are unable to locate the worksheet or tax calculations you can use the following to send your file.
If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions: (Don't forget to give us the state)
TurboTax Online:
Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.
TurboTax Desktop:
If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps:
We will be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return to provide you with a resolution.
I'm using desktop TT Deluxe for Windows and entering itemized deductions, in particular medical expenses. I can enter everything except for doctors expenses. I cannot enter anything in the box. The cursor won't even allow me to click in the box.
This has been a problem for at least 2 previous years. I know I've reported it, and yet it remains unfixed. Why?
Jim
For Medical you can enter it into any box or put the whole total in any box. Only the total goes to Schedule A. The separate boxes are only to help you not forget any expenses.
@Jim4AU On that page for the entering doctor's expenses, what happens when you click on Edit at the top of the desktop program screen and click on Add Supporting Details?
Okay, but if you're working through your separate medical expenses and cannot enter an amount for "doctors" isn't that a problem? It doesn't work and hasn't for at least 2 years.
This is what you get with off-shore programming.
Jim
Yes, that method works. I can add supporting details and an amount will show up in the box once I close the supporting detail window. As with other categories of medical expenses, you should be able click the text box and add an amount.
I'll make a note of this since I'm certain it won't be fixed in next year's addition. Should I add "TurboTax Software Testing" to my resume? Seriously, how can we have confidence in the complex machinations in TT if the simple stuff doesn't work, even after it's a known issue for 2+ years?
Jim
I'm no expert on these forms, but I've printed my return to pdf in all forms mode.
I do have the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet.
It is several forms after my Schedule B and then 1099-R's.
Are you saying you do not have it?
I'm on desktop TTax Deluxe.
Turbo Tax Home & Business is adding a Estimated Tax Penalty of $136 on line 38 of form 1040 when line 34 indicates an overpayment of $263. The IRS help guide says a underpayment of estimated tax is avoided if the filed tax return shows owing less than $1,000. I should not have to white out my tax return to make a correction for eliminating the penalty.
It would be nice to know if this issue is fixed by contracting me at [email address removed] or [phone number removed].
Thank you,
Dan
It is possible to have a Penalty, even if you're getting a refund. If your federal tax withholdings are not equal to 90% of the current year tax, then you may need to complete Form 2210 to determine if you are required to pay an underpayment penalty.
If you're using TurboTax Desktop, in FORMS, look at Form 2210, which calculates the penalty amount for you, and review the amounts. In TurboTax Online, after you pay for your return, save a PDF copy with 'all forms and worksheets' to review Form 2210.
Form 2210 doesn't need to be filed with your tax return in many cases. It can be used to determine if there is a penalty, and you may be able to delete Form 2210 from your return and have the IRS calculate your penalty and send you a bill if there is one.
Here's more info on Form 2210.
I had a penalty once when I had a refund. I have Home & Business too.
If you get a penalty on 1040 line 38, you might be able to eliminate it or at least reduce it. You can go to Federal Taxes tab or Personal tab, under Other Tax Situations and select Start by the Underpayment Penalties. You will answer a series of questions that may reduce or eliminate the penalty. Or you can elect to have the IRS figure the penalty for you. It's form 2210.
