What do I put if I have no middle name?

A middle name doesn't effect a tax return. The IRS only looks at the first 4 letters of the last name. Since you do not have a middle name you would not enter anything.

But Turbo Tax keeps showing an error.

Use the initial of your first or last name.

You can leave the middle initial field blank.   Go to the personal information section and make sure the field is completely blank.  Put your cursor in there and hit the delete button several times to ensure the field is empty.   It is not a required field.

The desktop app is still showing me an error that I need to input my middle initial  and will not allow me to submit the tax return.

Youi can leave the Middle Initial box blank (empty) as it is not a required entry on a tax return if you have no middle name.

If you are getting an error for the middle name there probably is a hidden character in the box that needs to be deleted.  Put your cursor in the box and press the Delete button on your keyboard several times to remove any hidden characters.

I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file, which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:

1. Open your return.

2. Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent”

3. This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created.  Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.

Please reply to this thread and provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.
