Interesting $40 fee to have your check direct deposited to your account in place of mailing a check to the filer.
Who's that fee going to? Elon?

I see you are using the desktop software. Are you efiling a state return, which has an efile fee of $25? If so, and if you chose to pay that $25 fee out of your Federal refund, there is a $40 service fee for that option ($45 for California.) That is not a fee for direct deposit. Direct deposit is provided by the IRS and is free.
You can avoid the extra $40 service fee if you decline that "pay out of refund" option and pay the TurboTax $25 state efile fee upfront with credit/debit card.
No there is no fee to get Direct Deposit. The Extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge (45 in California) is to have the state efile fee of $25 deducted from your federal refund. You can avoid it by paying any fees with a credit card or printing and mailing state.
So go back through the File tab. You have to go through the File tab SLOWLY and read the screens. People get going too fast and clicking on the right corner box to continue. But you have to click on the left box to pay with a credit card to avoid the fee.
Heres a screen shot from a prior year. It’s similar this year.
@nmgenest As Beavis would say, "Uhhh.huhh.uhh is that going to Elon?..duhhh huhhh ? " You are ridiculous just like my answer. Sheees
