1) Bought a New home in Georgia with my Boyfriend, if we are not married ,both single and file taxes separate - would it be more worthwhile to file joint as far as taxes are concerned??
2) I Have my home in Texas that I rent as income since I moved to Georgia, I am retired and that is my only income, (Other than some of my collectible dolls I sell to downsize my home since I moved, and a couple distributions I have taken from my 401K.) I do not claim Social Security yet. How do I claim that on my Taxes or do I even have too????
3) I collect my Doll sales money on Paypal - they said they will be sending out a tax form and they charge me fees for each transaction - how do I claim that as well????
4) Do I have to claim my Distribution Money, since they took the Taxes out???
Thank you

1. If you are not legally married you cannot file a joint tax return. Owning a house is not the same as being married.
2. ALL of your income has to be entered on your tax return including the rent you receive for the house in TX.
3. Again...ALL of your income goes on your tax return, so when PayPal sends you a document for the sales online of dolls, etc. you enter the information from that document.
4. ALL of your income will also include entering the 1099R that you will receive for the retirement income. You will get a 1099R in late January/early February.
To enter your retirement income, Go to Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA 401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.
Texas has no state income tax but if you live in Georgia for part of the year you will need to complete a part-year return for GA. The information flows from your federal return to the state return, and the software will follow the rules and laws for GA.
Thank you for your reply - so How would be the best way to file on the new home - My boyfriend claim it and any Interest - Updates - taxes etc that comes with a new home since he works & I dont???
Thank you
BB
Since your BF has an income then it would make sense for him to use the homeownership on his tax return. If you had no income the homeownership does nothing for you.
