2020 Amended Federal and State Tax Returns Update

I filed both my 2020 Federal and State Tax returns through turbo tax in February.  I was told by turbo tax that we are not to amend our returns, since the IRS was going to do that themselves.

I received my Amended Federal Return back in August.  Do I still need to wait on my State Return?  Will the IRS be amending the State Return as well?  How can we check on the status of the Amended State Return?

No, the IRS does not handle any type of State tax return.

How do I find out what the Amended Federal return is to check on State return?

I just checked on my State Return.  I put in my credentials and it says that it's not available at this time.

First you need to verify that the state tax return was e-filed assuming that you used the TurboTax online editions.

To access your online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the 2020

If the status of the State tax return is Accepted then the state return was e-filed and has been received by your state.

Contact your state department of revenue to find out the status of the tax return and the tax refund.
