2018 Comparison Data Incorrect

I started TurboTax last year (2018 tax year) but did not complete/file it because I ended up filing elsewhere. This year I am trying TT again. Throughout the process it continued to compare between my old 2018 and 2019 information. The 2018 information it displays is incorrect because I never finished it. Now that I am about to review and file 2019, it is showing incorrect 2018 information again. Is this okay? Is the 2018 statistics for my own knowledge only? Will it affect my 2019 tax return at all?

It should not affect your return at all, it is there for comparison purposes and things like penalty determinations.

For historical reasons though, you may want to update (not file) your 2018 data that way you have it available for your records.  The only place that you will need to pay attention to is when you are trying to Electronically File your return, you will be asked for your 2018 AGI for verification reasons.

This can be found on line 7 on of your 2018 return:

How would I go about updating my 2018 data if I haven’t actually filed my 2019 yet? From my understanding it would erase everything that I’ve entered in for 2019 if I tried to change it now. Also, when you say I should update for my records, do you mean for my a Turbo Tax records only? Because I have my accurate physical 2018 return with me for my records.

Should I e-file 2019 first using my 2018 AGI and afterward, go back in to Turbo Tax to update my 2018 information? Thanks for the clarification!

Yes. e-file 2019 using your 2018 AGI that was filed. As long as there are no carryovers from 2018 into 2019, then you can proceed filing your 2019 tax returns.

When I go to file they show a page that says

"Last year's tax info.

These are the numbers the IRS will use to confirm you're really you."

The number they are showing on this page for 2018 is incorrect. I started filling my taxes on Turbotax for 2018 and then decided to use H & R Block. I'm nervous to overlook the incorrect total when Turbotax says that they will use that amount shown on the page to confirm I am really me. Can you confirm I can still continue to submit?

@Naperville42 Change the AGI to the one that was on the return you actually submitted to the IRS.  If you try to e-file with an AGI that does not match what the IRS has in the system the return will be rejected.  Rejections come from the IRS.  And...if the correct AGI does not work then try zero.  If none of those work then you have to print, sign and mail the return.

Where would I be able to change my AGI in TurboTax? I typed in "Find AGI" in the help pop up and it says "It doesn't look like you filed a return last year...." However I did file a tax return last year.
