Do I need to amend my taxes to get the first and second stimulus I see that it says I have 1800 how can I get it or file for it
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
It depends.
When you completed your tax return and filed it, did you indicate you did not receive either of the first 2 stimulus payments?
If so, you should see an amount on Form 1040, Line 30 for the Recovery Rebate Credit.
If you do not see anything on Line 30 and you did not receive either the first or second stimulus payments, you will need to amend your return to indicate this and claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.
It says 1800 on line 30 and on TurboTax it says Federal refund 1800 but I filled Feb 10th and already received my federal tax it was 947 so I do I get the 1800?
No. If your total federal refund was $2,747 and you only received $947, then then the IRS removed the $1,800 Recovery Rebate Credit from your return and continued to process the rest of your refund. The Recovery Rebate credit will not be sent separately.
If you did not get your first or second stimulus, and the IRS disqualified you from receiving the Recovery Rebate Credit, then please review the qualifications below.
To qualify, you must:
The IRS will sent you a notice shortly on the reason they disqualified you for the Recovery Rebate Credit. At that point, you can contact the IRS if you disagree with the information provided.
Please see the IRS page 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit — Topic G: Correcting issues after the 2020 tax return is filed for more information.
I fit within the qualifications that you listed and I never received anything saying that I was disqualified and it's saying federal return 1800 if I was disqualified it wouldn't be saying federal return 1800
I received an employment and I received the third stimulus on March 17th so how do I qualify for the third one but not the first and second one?
You should have them all. The qualifications would be met when filling in 2020 and claiming yourself provided your income was within the range, as you state. The fact that you got some of the money, makes me wonder if the IRS thinks they gave you one of the payments.
Did you check the Get My Payment tool during the first 2 stimulus payments to see if you were sent any stimulus? Did you receive any letters about the stimulus?
You can request a payment trace now. To request a payment trace, call 800-919-9835 or fill out IRS Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund.
Sorry but I am totally confused by all IRS instructions, can't reach IRS.. pulling out my hair. would appreciate info if possible.
I received first stimulus check, no problem.
Kept hearing info that IRS would send Credit Card for second stimulus.. did not get !
I am social security recepient do not pay taxes so I went ahead and filed my 1040SR but indicated I had not received my $600 stim... of course 2 days after I Electronically filed taxes.. I got $600 check in the mail. Since I had already filed asking for the 600 on return, I returned the 600 to the IRS marking it void/duplicate..
Now a couple days ago I received an adjustment notification from IRS saying I made an error and they corrected it to a 0 money coming to me... Notice CP13.. and 18H code.. I called the IRS was told to fill out a form 3911.. Then I had a returned call from the IRS and was told that I needed to file a 1040X form.. NOW I can't reach anyone at the IRS and they are not returning calls
Totally fustrated and confused
@Harpergwlc Oh, you should have kept the check. The IRS adjusted your return to zero believing that you had received the money. When you called, the form 3911 is for when the check is lost/ stolen/missing. Your returned check must have shown up and the IRS realized that is was no longer missing. Now, you need to file an amended return.
Save a copy of the original return before doing an amended return. See:
Once you are into the system, type stimulus in the search box. Then click on jump to stimulus to fill out the information.
When you fill out why you are amending, use short, clear sentences to explain what happened. Efile the amended return.
No I haven't received any letters but I received the third stimulus and on turbotax's app that I have it says federal tax return zero then when I get on the web where you can amend your taxes it says 1800 and that's the $600 and the 1200 did I did not receive so I'm a little confused right now
And then when I check the get my payment tool it just gives me the date of when they sent my original federal taxes and the other one States when they mailed the third stimulus
@Markdavis1984 If the IRS adjusted your refund because their records show that you received the first and second stimulus payments, TurboTax would not know this.
In TurboTax, it was calculated for you to get $1800 based on your answers that you didn't receive the stimulus payments.
When the IRS got your tax return, they checked their records and determined that you didn't qualify for the $1800 (or they had already sent it to you) so they deducted that amount from your refund.
If this is not correct, you need to deal with the IRS on this. Filing an Amended Return will get you the same result. See the post from @AmyC above:
