1099-K Smart Check Error

I have the same problem. I suspect 10000 people have the same problem. How do we let Intuit know so they can eventually fix it?

1099-K Smart Check Error

This was a truly unacceptable experience for something that should have been an easy fix. I had to do the "work around" offered by James (thanks for offering a semi-solution??) for this ridiculous Smart Check looping error on my 1099K from eBay, where everything I sold was at a loss. Thus I had to "FAKE REPORT" a sale of a small profit just to clear an error, which is the advice given to me on this thread! Come on guys -- you're asking me to LIE on a GOVERNMENT FORM. What a great example! This cost me a few bucks extra in taxes that I shouldn't have had to pay. Yeah it's just "a few bucks" but I shouldn't have had to do it and I resent ANY extra dollar I give to the government that loves to waste them. And let's not forget about the EXTRA 10+ HOURS this cost me both on Turbo Tax and in phone calls and in online research. If I hadn't paid early for my TT filing, I would have jumped ship to another company for sure, despite nearly 30 years of history with Turbo Tax. It definitely will have me trying someone else next year. Then to add insult to injury, to submit FEEDBACK on this whole thing...I have to actually submit my returns (which is hard to do when they give me a looping error) and wait for an email as per the last message? In addition, the "looping error" thread I was signed up to receive a notice for when this was "fixed" is now non-existent, saying it's been fixed. I never got an email stating such. Yet nope, still looping even after clearing caches and even switching browsers. I've resorted to the lie of the "workaround" for now but don't appreciate being ripped off this year.

1099-K Smart Check Error

I am having this same issue.  Entered everything correctly just like last year.  My personal item had no gain so the amount listed on my 1099-k should be listed at the top of schedule 1, but instead I’m getting a review error message & no schedule 1 is generated when I bypass the error.

I should not have to fill out the cost basis schedule in this situation, which also would require upgrading to a more expensive version of TurboTax.  I regret that I’ve already paid for TurboTax online and to efile both my state and federal taxes.

It’s unacceptable for TurboTax to still have a major bug like this on tax day.

1099-K Smart Check Error

I’m having such a hard time with this error. This is obviously a glitch, has anyone resolved this 1099-K needs review error? All my personal sales were at a loss. This should not be this difficult. I really need help and the only way is to upgrade to live assistance to get any help? This is truly unacceptable, and I’m not confident that I will get this resolved by upgrading since I’ve been reading other people’s experiences.

1099-K Smart Check Error

I wish I had better news. I just gave up and did what James recommended in this thread, which was to “fake” a small profit on one item and thus pay a few dollars more in taxes than I should have. You’ve got a lot more hoops to jump through doing it this way but it was the only way I could get around it and submit my return without an error. I am STILL SO MAD about this experience. 30 years of smooth sailing with TT, but this stupid error that should have been an easy fix and was completely ignored by TT will have me going elsewhere next year.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to give it until tonight and then I guess I will do what you did. I spoke with someone but no solution, they said they are working on this issue. Really? It's tax day! I will definitely be switching next year.

1099-K Smart Check Error

I requested a refund.  This is unacceptable.  I’ve spent hours trying to figure out a workaround and am not willing to upgrade to Premium (and give them more money for a faulty product) when I don’t have any reportable income from this 1099-K.  Has anyone tried the H&R Block app to see if this issue can be avoided there?

1099-K Smart Check Error

I have filled out that the 1099k is for a personal item sale

but there is no box to say tjat

it was sold for a loss or no gain. Where can I find that.

I did put the cost of the item on investment loss as another reply said to handle it that way but it won’t allow me to link them on a schedule d just a c and it keeps saying it is an error-

it won’t let me double click the correct schedule to link them. And so it won’t let me file on line

1099-K Smart Check Error

I upgraded to Premium Live and still got no help with over 1.5 hours on the the phone with an expert. They still would not acknowledge this glitch, even showing my screen where it clearly shows no way around the review error. I'm so frustrated and now will have to file an extension. I have spent hours on this and I have already spent a long time doing my taxes and don't really want to start over with someone else. I guess I should have earlier.

Hello, I keep seeing these instructions and no it does not work. I have done everything you stated over and over and still get the review error.

I feel your pain.  It’s mind boggling that TurboTax has not fixed this issue, and that there’s no way to add a Schedule 1 or manually edit the form.

The IRS guidance says you can log the income as other income on line 8z and log the adjustment on line 24z, but I can’t figure out how to edit those lines in TurboTax.

BTW- They rejected my request for a refund (on grounds that the product isn’t working).  SMH.

1099-K Smart Check Error

My return is now including a Schedule 1 that lists my 1099-K revenue for personal property sold at a loss at the top like it should, but I’m still getting the review error in the 1099-K section.

I had just manually logged the 1099-K income in the other misc income section and then made a second entry with a negative income value so it netted out (as a work around), but that may not be necessary now.

Actually, I think that change I made (by logging the 1099-k sale as other income and then again as negative income) created an entry in 8z of schedule 1, which is why my return is now including a Schedule 1.  So anyone missing a schedule 1 can use this workaround.

Under other misc income:

add new line item for Form 1099-K Personal Item Sold at a Loss with the value

add a second line entry with the same label but negative value

they will net out on Schedule 1, and the top of your Schedule 1 form will show the correct value.
