US CITIZEN LIVING IN EUROPE

Hi ,

US citizen lived in Europe 12 months in 2022  and worked for USA company while in Europe  . Taxes are withheld on w-2.

Do i qualify for Foreign Earned Income Exclusion or do i just do my return like i was in US full year.

What do i do?

If all of your foreign income is excluded, all of your income taxes from Box 2 would be credited back to you provided you have no other taxable income to report on your return.

Yes, if you were in the foreign country for 330 days during the 12 month period then yes, you may qualify for the foreign earned income exclusion.

 

To file your return using TurboTax, you will report all of your income and claim the foreign income exclusion or credit by selecting the following:

  • Wages and Income
  • Show more next to less common income
  • Start next to Foreign Earned Income and Exclusion
  • Answer yes to did you make any money outside the US.
  • Continue through answering all the questions to claim the exclusion.

If i understood correctly all withheld taxes from w-2 on line 7 would come as refund ?
