I am getting a REFUND on my State Filing but I OWE $$ on my Federal so
I'd like to E-file my 2022 TT Deluxe State filing by E-filing FIRST using Intuits site and then wait until April to file my Federal since I have to PAY (so why file/pay earlier than needed).
Can I do this with my TTD 2022 or do I have to email them together or in reverse order from what I want (I want State E-file first then two months later E-file my federal)
(dsd1): my normal email is [email address removed] (if that is possible as I sometimes have a hard time getting back to this community site)
Thanks

The state tax return cannot be e-filed alone if the federal return has not been e-filed and accepted by the IRS.
The federal and state tax returns can be e-filed at the same time OR you can e-file the federal return now and e-file the state return at a later date one the federal return has been accepted by the IRS.
No, although state returns can be e-filed with your federal return (or after your federal return has already been accepted), it's no longer possible to e-file state returns before the federal.

Can I e-file my state return before my federal?
Hmmmm; not the order that I am looking for.
Assuming your answer is correct that would leave me to be able to print/send in my state tax rather than E filing it. I wonder if states (like MA) will allow E-file to them using the TTD program (or maybe fax to them or scan/email). Any ideas?
You can e-file them at the same time but say that you will pay the federal tax by mailing a check. That gives you time to get the state refund back..By the April filing deadline, mail the IRS a check or pay the IRS on the direct pay site.
If you have federal tax due you can pay by mailing your payment with the 1040V voucher, (which has the address printed on it, having the payment taken out of a designated bank account, or you can pay directly on the IRS website.
Thanks for the input but sending a check to the Fed's will only take a week of so to cash. If I send now I will be having to pay almost two months EARLIER than the 15 April deadline. So, not a good choice as I'd like to get State back within a week and two months later have to pay my Fed tax due.
I may be forced to print out my TTD state and physically print it out and send it into my State ASAP. How 1960's. My state (MA) cannot handle FAX or PDF files, nor can they handle a TTD file and in order to file my state online I'd have to REDO the state filing using THEIR UNIQUE FORM. Lots of extra work with all my deductions.
cheers
No---you do not have to mail the check NOW. You just have to mail it by the filing deadline in April.
Thanks for your input but you may have misunderstood my words: I will have to send in (mail) my STATE filing now to get my refund. I then can wait until 15 April to file my Federal where I owe money. My issue was trying to E-file my state now (for my quick refund) without filing my Federal early as well. TT Deluxe won't permit filing State early w/o filing the Federal then also.
@dsd1 I did not misunderstand you at all. You cannot e-file a state return unless you have first e-filed the federal return. Just because you e-file the federal now does not require you to pay the federal tax due immediately. You could wait and pay the IRS the federal tax later as long as you pay by April 18. That way you could e-file both returns at the same time and hope for the state refund to arrive in time for you to pay the federal tax due.
