No. Only the state can provide this documentation. And, to receive West Virginia's Motor Vehicle Property Tax Adjustment Credit, you need to have received the documentation from the state.
When you get to the Taxes and Credits portion of the West Virginia section in TurboTax, you'll come to a screen called Motor Vehicle Property Tax Adjustment Credit.
You'll be asked whether you received an MV-1 schedule from the West Virginia Tax Division. If you answer yes, the next screen will allow you to enter your MV-1 data. But when you answer no, you bypass the chance to enter that information.
See Motor Vehicle Property Tax Adjustment Credit on West Virginia's Income Tax Credits for Property Taxes Paid page for more information.
The projected release date is January 27th.
In order to claim the Motor Vehicle Property Tax Adjustment Credit, the West Virginia Tax Division will be sending out MV-1 letters to eligible taxpayers. The letter will provide necessary information regarding your eligible tax credit and what can be claimed on Line 21(A) of the IT-140. These letters and an Online Letter Portal will be made available to taxpayers at the start of the filing season. If you have not received a MV-1 letter by February 15, 2025 you can go online to mytaxes.wvtax.gov and use the online letter portal to generate your letter.
There will also be an Online FIling Portal for taxpayers who are not required to file a personal income tax return. If you are claiming credits in addition to the Motor Vehicle Adjustment Property Tax Credit, such as Senior Citizen Tax Credit (SCTC), Homestead Excess Property Tax Credit (HEPTC), etc.. you must file a WV personal income tax return to claim all credits.

TurboTax did ask for the information from form MV-1. Does it send the claim number from the form MV-1 when you submit your IT-140 electronically?
The claim number is on the MV-1 form you will receive in the mail (most likely next week)
Or you can look it up online after 2/15/25 ... I believe
Yes thank you. I received form MV-1 and entered the information in TurboTax. When I print preview the tax return it does not show form MV-1 or the claim number. Just wanted to see if TurboTax does send the claim number in with the tax return.
In TurboTax Desktop Deluxe, I am able to view a completed West Virginia MV-1 within the West Virginia state income tax return under FORMS mode.
