Why is Turbotax is showing an $8000 NYS refund due when I had no withholding which is crazy, I didn't even pay that much in property tax?

Why is this so useless?

Double check your own data entries and see if you have a typo, misplaced decimal or added a zero somewhere when you entered your income.   If you entered a W-2 look at boxes 16 and 17.

In addition to the great information provided by, xmasbaby0, you may have qualified for some of New York's refundable credits.  If you are claiming your child or children as dependents you may qualify for the Earned Income Credit, Dependent Care Credit, Child Tax Credit, and others.  Refundable credits can get you a refund even when you do not owe any taxes.  Things You Should Know About Refundable Credits

Refundable tax credits are called “refundable” because if you qualify for a refundable credit and the amount of the credit is larger than the tax you owe, you will receive a refund for the difference.

No typo, No W2 - I've looked deeper and Turbotax has taken the $8000 IRA distribution that I placed in the Federal portion and moved it to New York State as State Tax Withheld so wants to give me the entire 8 grand back. I think some code correction might be in order. Thanks for replying though.

I know what deductions and credits are. I do have $350 of those coming. As I mentioned in the other reply.
