Why is my standard deduction $8000 this year and $0 last year?

Are you someone else's dependent?

The standard deduction amount for an individual who may be claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer cannot exceed the greater of $1300or the sum of $450 and the individual’s earned income (not to exceed the regular standard deduction amount of $15,750).

Or are you married?  If you had 0 last year you might have filed as Married filing Separately and your spouse itemized deductions but you didn't have any deductions on your return.  If you were a dependent last year you would have got the minium standard deduction of 1,300 not 0.   Where is the 0 on your 2024 return , what line #?  8,000 seems like an weird number.  Is it 8,000 even or what is the exact amount?

I'm not a dependent to anyone. I filed head of household married last year. Nothing from last year changed except my income went up due to overtime and position change. I dont know where the $8000 came from.

We thought you were asking about your federal tax return, and now it seems you are asking about your New York State return.

$8000 is the standard deduction for NY if you are single.
