You are able to Deduct Vehicle Sales Tax as well as Car registration Fees
- You enter it in the Estimates and Other Taxes Paid section of TurboTax (which is under Deductions and Credits). You'll see the line for Sales Tax.
As you go through the EasyGuide questions you'll be asked about major
purchases. This is where you'll enter the sales tax info on your new
vehicle.
- The car registration and personal property taxes deduction is allowed
when you are taxed based on the value of the car. Since both of the tax
charges you described are based on the car's value, you may deduct both figures in Kentucky. TurboTax will allow you to input multiple lines so list your car twice- once for each of these figures.
- For Personal Property Taxes/Car Registration Fees:
- Click the Federal Taxes tab at the top (or
the Personal tab if using Home & Business)
- Then, Deductions
& Credits
- In the
"Cars and Other Things You Own" section, click Show more
- Next to
"Car registration fees", click Start or Revisit
- Then,
follow the interview screens from there (please see attached screenshot)
