TT increases my federal taxes owed when I put in the 1200 stimulus check - Why?

@confusedAZ The Recovery Rebate Credit on Line 30 on the Form 1040 was removed as a credit when you indicted that you received the 3rd stimulus payment.  You cannot get the same stimulus amount twice.

TT increases my federal taxes owed when I put in the 1200 stimulus check - Why?

Had the same thing happen to me.  I think the TT software is screwed up and they won’t admit it.  As you know,  TT doesn’t normally “assume” anything.  I finally opened a new file and entered all of my information again, then it worked correctly and did not add the stimulus payment to my tax bill.

TT increases my federal taxes owed when I put in the 1200 stimulus check - Why?

Curiously, after posting my problem, I decided to delete my entire return and start over......THIS time the "Other Tax Situation" pages asking the question on the Economic 3rd stimulus payment have changed and it merely asked if I had received the $1400 and after saying yes, this time the Federal Taxes owed DID NOT INCREASE so, did TT change the software from my last posting or was this a glitch they corrected?  Either way, I hope this has been corrected.

TT increases my federal taxes owed when I put in the 1200 stimulus check - Why?

I wasn't trying to get another stimulus payment.  I was merely answering the question that it posed and indicating that I had received the amount on the Letter 6475 from the US Treasury.  I deleted my entire return since posting and the page has changed in TT for the Economic Stimulus payment.  This time answering and confirming that I had received the $1400 (as before) did not add $1400 to my Federal Tax figure.  So, either there was a glitch initially, or TT made a change to correct their mistake.
