Stimulus Check Recovery Rebate

Hello,

I had a child on January 6, 2021.  We never got any stimulus check for that child.  It is my understanding that we can get a recovery rebate because we were technically owed a stimulus check for him.  Myself, my wife, and my other child did all receive the correct amounts.  Is my understanding correct that I am due a recovery rebate for my child born in January?  If so, how do I go about doing that?

Go through the recovery rebate credit section in Federal Review.   You will need to enter the amount of the 3rd EIP you already received for yourself and your older child,   The amount you can still receive for your new child will show up on line 30 of your Form 1040.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. If your child was born in 2021make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.

Awesome. Thank you.  I would have thought the gov't would send out documentation on what was received, similar to the child tax credit forms I just got, but I guess it is up to us to say how much we got for stimulus checks?

They are sending out letter 6475 to show how much you received for the stimulus.  Keep that letter with your tax records.
