specific item tax deduction with general sales tax deduction

I bought a new truck and paid a much larger tax than the specific item deduction TurboTax adds to the general sales tax deduction.  How is the specific item amount that is much smaller determined?  Why not include all the large item tax?

Your sales tax should include the tax paid on your large item. Please use the actual IRS calculator. There may be an issue with your program or the entry method. Use Sales Tax Deduction Calculator. When you go back to the program, select enter actual receipts and then enter the IRS answer. This will not affect your taxes, it is a program thing.

 You may want to save a screenshot from the IRS page along with your big ticket items in your tax folder.
