The shortcut method of removing a business sale from your return would be to delete form 4797 as follows:
Follow these instructions:
1. Choose the Tax Tools option on your left menu bar while working on your return
2. Choose Tools
3. Choose the Delete a form option under Other Helpful links
4. Find the Form 4797 in the list of forms and delete it
The other option would be to work through the section where the business sale would have been entered, in the business section on the screen that says Let's gather your business info where you will find the Sale of Business Property option under Less Common Business Situations:
Work through that section and remove the sale of property entered there.
These instructions do not work. I manually delete the form and it doesn't go away. There must be a systemic issue here, as I never added this to my return in the first place and it doesn't allow it to be removed. To be clear, I followed the instructions to manually delete the form, and I followed the instructions to delete thriugh the wizard. Neither work.
Since you can' t delete the Form 4797, that means there is something being carried over from somewhere else onto that form. That could be an entry from a Schedule K-1 or 1099 form or a carryover from a previous year. Such a form or schedule would be listed in your program when you do the delete form exercise. I suggest you do that again and see what other forms and schedules are in your program and investigate the ones that may report the sale of a business asset or real estate.
I am having the same issue being unable to delete the Sale of a Business Property using either route, but I also don't know how to tell which worksheets or forms are connected to form 4797. How do I know so I can remove those forms or redo them so are accurate and I can file these **bleep** returns.

Can I just add a negating line item?
Since turbtax is forcing a -5000 loss on a sale, can I create a sale of +5000 to show zero on the sale of a business property?
