Where to show additional taxes to be paid in 2020

I owe tax in 2019.   Working on 2020 tax estimates.  No place in TurboTax to show planned tax to be withheld from Soc Security for 2020.  Can I input the planned amounts in the "2020 deduction section"? Need to show IRS I am already paying additional tax for 2020 in addition to any quarterly amounts.  There is no other place that allows me to account for changes to W-4s for Social Security.

Yes, on the screen titled Enter you 2020 W-2 Wage Information, you should be able to update the 2020 Federal withholding by the amount of the additional tax you estimate will be withheld on your Social Security benefit.

Where to show additional taxes to be paid in 2020

Hi:  The screen you are referencing (enter your 2020 W2 information) will not accept the income and the projected withholding.  The screen cuts off the withholding input which is to the right of the 2020 income.  Is this a glitch in the program or is there a remedy?

No, it is not a glitch. I am able to enter numbers in that area of the screen. I recommend the following steps:

  • Sign out of TurboTax
  • Close your browser completely
  • Open a new browser using incognito Chrome and sign in to TurboTax
  • Navigate back to your estimates screen:
    • From the left menu, select Federal
    • From the four tabs across the top, click Other Tax Situations, third from the left
    • Form W-4 and Estimated Taxes click Revisit

Where to show additional taxes to be paid in 2020

Hi Kathy:  Thanks for responding to me.  I am not a savvy computer user.  I have no idea what you mean by "incognito Chrome."  Also, I cannot understand why Turbo Tax does not recognize me.  I have used the software for years and I have not changed my log in.  I used the CD to install this year's program.  I was able to import my 2018 return.  However, when I try to log in on the web it does not recognize me.  I am frustrated to say the least.

If you are using the software, not the online product, you do not need the online product. Logging in online would be opening a new file all together.

You should be able to open your CD program in the regular way.

Please check the minimum system requirements needed to run the software.

My apologies, I provided instructions as if you were using TurboTax Online. But, you are using the CD/Download.

For your reference, click the details on opening an incognito Chrome browser

The boxes for the wages show but the boxes for the withholding are not showing on the “Enter your 2020 W-2 Wage Information” screen

I am using the downloaded version. I am not using a web based version. Chrome incognito is not an option and I am a savvy computer user

Could you tell me where you see this “Enter your 2020 W-2 Wage Information” screen?
