No. Only donations to recognized charities are deductible.
NON-PROFIT
It is not income to you as organizers ... it can be considered a non taxable gift if you don't open a 501(c)(3) to funnel these "donations" thru.
nor are they taxable - at worst they would be gifts to you.
That wasn't my question. Are the donations TAXABLE to us?
It is not income to you as the organizers ... but keep good records of the "gifts" & the expenses if you are ever questioned.
@xmasbaby0 means "yes" they are taxable income and "no" they are not deductible. Only donations made to a qualified charity are tax deductible.
These donations might be considered gifts, such as a Go Fund Me. If so, not taxable income.
one more time
1) the money is not income to the recipients; it's a gift. No different than receiving presents (or money) for a birthday party or other ocaission. This is not a business.
2) the money is not tax deductible to the gifters as there is no 401(c).
In simplest terms----there is nothing to enter on a tax return about this. You are a group of people who are cleaning up the area you live in. Nothing about what you are doing is taxable or deductible, although it is nice that you are cleaning up the area.
