Third Stimulus / Dependents

My fiancé and I live together with two children. Last year, each of us claimed one child on our 2020 returns. With that being said, we received (2) $2800 payments for two sets of 2 individuals.  We also received two separate child tax monthly payments of $250 each for the 6 months.

For 2021, I have been putting in different tax scenarios into TurboTax. If I claim both kids as dependents, and put that I only received $2800, it's giving me another $1400 for the other (new) dependent I will be claiming vs the 2020 return where I only claimed one child.

Is that right? Should I put that I received a total of $4,200, even though my fiancé technically received the payment? Or does the amount need to specifically match Letter 6475? That would mean we would put $2800 for his return, even though TurboTax is expecting it to be $1400 for just him. The help text says if you received more than what they expect, you don't have to pay it back?

I want to put in the correct amounts from the letters so it matches up, but it doesn't seem right. Any help appreciated!

Enter exactly what you received.

Third Stimulus / Dependents

You should put in the actual amount of the stimulus received by you if you are not filing jointly. The person not claiming the dependent may have to pay back his/her portion if the other parent is getting the payment on the tax return for the additional dependent.
