The IRS wants all taxpayers to answer the question, whether you have children or not. Enter zero (0) and continue with the onscreen interview until complete.  This should correct your return.

I deleted the form but every time I delete and run review it comes back. I have no child dependents

Are you sure it is the Form 8812 that keeps reappearing or is it possible, it is Form 2441 - Dependent Care Credit?   If you are taking the Dependent Care Credit, do not delete it, but if you started that section erroneously and attempt to delete the form, it will return if the section if half completed.

An incomplete Form 2441 will be created if you start the Child and Dependent Care section but don't complete it. This can cause problems when attempting to file your return.

    To resolve:

    1. While signed in to your return, Select Federal from the left menu, then Deductions and Credits
    2. In the Your tax breaks box, select Edit/Add next to Dependent Care Credit
    3. Answer No on the next screen. This should delete the credit from the Your tax breaks section
    4. Now you'll need to delete the 2441. From the left menu (tap in the upper-left corner on mobile devices to open the menu), select Tax Tools followed by Tools and and select Delete a Form in the pop-up
    5. Scroll down the list of forms and select Delete next to Form 2441
    6. Click Delete Form to confirm. You should get Form Successfully Deleted. Select Continue
    7. Back at the Review Form List screen, scroll down to make sure Form 2441 no longer appears on the list. If it doesn't, you can select Continue With My Return

For form 8812, Child and Dependent Tax Credits, verifying you have no dependents listed and make sure to go through the Child Tax Credit interview to check your answers regarding receiving advance payments, see above post.    @user12422

Dawn, the same error happened to me last night.  I claim no dependents and have no other related forms.  However, Turbotax Desktop created a schedule 8812 and populated it with my income and other information and calculated a zero benefit, but it still insisted on asking me the question during the error check.    I suspect that this is such an important issue, and because there will be some people who got the advance payments but don't claim a dependent this year, that the program must ask everyone.

We do not have children nor have claimed any children linked to the Child Care Credit, yet Schedule 8812 always returns after deleted the Tax Form, "Save", "Close" TurboTax downloaded Mac version and reboot computer.  Despite that, Schedule 8812 reappears.

    Something is not working correctly.

A simple way to delete forms in TurboTax online is to use the Tax Tools menu option, which is on your left menu bar when you are working in your program. Then, choose Tools and then Delete a form.

If you are working in the download TurboTax program, use the Forms Mode on your menu bar to bring up the form you want to delete, then choose the Delete Form option at the bottom of the form.

easy way to fix is to go to deductions and make sure to go through child tax credit and ensure its "0".

This ABSOLUTELY fixes the error once you’ve deleted the form and then taken the action described.  I’m using Mac CD/download.

I solved it!!!!!! Go back to Deductions.  When you get to the screen that first cites the $1,400 (filing for Single) or $2,800 (filing for Married Couples) ... Click NO, Continue.  The next screen asks if you received a March Stimulus payment ... Click YES, Continue.  You are now done.

The hangup for me was this form so deleting Schedule 8812 does nothing other than aggravate people.

"Turbo tax continues to ask to enter an amount received as an advance payment on schedule 8812. I do not have any dependent children and have not received any payments. "

Same problem here, bypassed by entering 0.00 in each space, but seems more like a software glitch.

In the general case, everyone will be asked if they received an advance payment.  If you do not encounter the question in the dependent section, it will come up in the error check.  I think it should be moved somewhere else so that you will encounter it before you try to finalize your return, but since it works as intended, that suggestion may not get a high priority with the Product Quality team.

Glad I'm not the only one with this issue. I've never had any dependents in all the years I've used this software. Suddenly I get a fix the error step and prompted for information for Schedule 8812. I put zero in this but it looks like it adjusted my taxes due amount. I don't want to have my return rejected when I do file. I don't see an option to remove the form in the macOS app as all the items under the Form menu are disabled.

My return indicates no dependents under the Personal Information section... I just figured out how to remove Schedule 8812 in macOS.

    1. Select the Tax Data feature.
    2. Look for Schedule 8812 in the list of forms and select it.
    3. Then select Go To Form button.
    4. Then choose the Forms in the TurboTax application menu.
    5. Then select Remove Schedule 8812.
    6. Then select the Easy option in the app windows top toolbar to return the nice guided UI.

Unfortunately removing the schedule doesn't help as I get the same fix errors prompt when I try to complete my return. Ugh!

I got rid of it by filling out the You and Your Family section in Deductions & Credits.  Since I have no children, after answering the 5 or 6questions, the review stopped asking about the form and the 8812 disappeared.

I think there is a bug in Turbotax. I have prepared three family returns today and every one of them identified and error after the Federal Review and opened the Schedule 8812 and instructed me to fill it our.  None of these returns have anything to do with children in any way. One of the returns I prepared was for my Deceased Brother but it still asked about Schedule 8812.  In each case, I had to go back and find the area discussion Abode and child credits and put in some filler information.  Putting in a 0 does not work.  Pretty frustrating as  you can see by the number of comments you have on this subject.  It is stressful enough to fill these things out without having to go look for a needle in a haystack to find out why this subject is even come up.  Fix it....

Everyone has to answer whether they received advance child tax credit payments.   If you did not receive any of those payments between July and December you need to answer that you did not receive any payments.

There are so many scenarios with those payments---like divorced/never married parents who have issues over who received the payments, who claimed the children, etc. --- the software has no way of knowing if any of that involves you---so you have to answer the questions about it.

Please follow these steps to indicate you did not receive any advanced payments:

    1. Click on the "Search" on the top and type "Child tax credit"
    2. Click on “Jump to Child Tax Credit”
    3. Continue through the questions until the "Tell us about any advance Child Tax Credit payments" screen and select "No".
    4. Continue through the questions.

I understand what you just said, but.  If you do not go through the full scenario and answer all the questions, you completely skip this section.  so, when doing the final Federal Review and you note that this is checked.  Instead of just popping up the Schedule 8812 page and expect everyone to know what to do with it,  why not just direct us back to where that question is asked in the first place.  I spend over an hour trying to figure out how to get by this thing when you could have easily just told me that I had not answered this apparent all important question that the IRS has to have the answer to.  Think a little harder about the dilemma you are putting your customers in when you just pop up an IZRS Tax page that they have never seen before and have no ideas what to do with it.  Think Customer support first and don't leave us hanging out on a lamb when we are already working on one of the most distasteful functions we have to deal with each  year..    wlg.

I am also receiving this quandary. I do have two children but am claiming only one. I did receive the third stimulus in March, and accounted for it on the program. But don't understand how to answer this?

There are two different sets of interview questions concerning new payments you may have received from the IRS/Government in 2021.

First, Advanced Child Tax Credit payments.  You would have received those payments monthly between Jul-Dec for each child that was claimed on your 2020 tax return.  You should receive a letter 6419 that shows those total payments.

In the "Deductions & Credits" tab you will find the "Child Tax Credit" topic (it may be under the "Your Family" section).  You will be asked if you received advanced child tax credit payments.  You will enter the total amount you received according to your letter 6419.  If filing a joint return you will also enter the amount from your spouse's letter 6419 as well.

At that point your total child tax credit based on your 2021 tax return information is calculated by subtracting the amount you entered from your letter 6419 (and spouse's if joint return) and then adding any remaining child tax credit to your tax return.  That remaining child tax credit shows up on line 28 as a refundable credit.

The second payment that you need to account for is the third stimulus payment (1400 per person on your 2020 return). As part of the federal review after entering all your income and deductions, you will be asked if you received the third stimulus.  If you answer "yes" you will be asked what the amount was.  You should get or have gotten a letter 6475 showing that payment as well.  At this point your refund or tax owed will be adjusted by removing the amount of stimulus payment that you indicate you (and your spouse if joint return) already received.

Any remaining stimulus amount that you are eligible for will be on line 30 of your return as a Recovery Rebate Credit.

I was having the same problem, and found help in the Help section.  I discovered the answer to this issue is to enter "0" in the column and it will let you file.

    Hope this helps.
