Remaining 50% of enhanced CTC

When will we get remaining 50% of the enhanced child tax credit since we filed 2021 tax already? I received 50% in 2021 via monthly installments. I also received my tax refund but not the remaining 50% enhanced child tax.

You are correct in that this year the Advanced Child Tax Credit you already received is the non-refundable portion that you are referring to in your question. The Refundable portion of the Child Tax Credit is shown on Line 28 of your tax return.  This line should have an amount equal to  $3,300.     Using your numbers you should receive a refund of at least $2,100.   Line 35a tells you the amount of your refund.

Basically, this is how it has always worked, except this year you received the non-refundable portion in advance through monthly payments.

The tax refund you received included the remaining 50% tax credit.   Half of the payments were sent to early as advance payments and the remainder is claimed on your tax return.   Did you go through the Child Tax Credit section and enter the amount of payments you already received?    If you did that, then your Child Tax Credit would appear on your tax return at that moment.   Did the IRS adjust your return and not include it?    You can look at your Form 1040, Line 28 to see to balance of the credit.    You should have Schedule 8812 with your return that details out the credit, your early payments and the balance that was claimed on Line 28.

Thanks for your reply. However,  i need a bit more clarification.

This year line 19 reads different than last year. For example, in 2020, we received 2k in line 19 as child tax credit, and after deduction from the taxes owed, the total amount came to 2000. The witheld was 4000 and we received a refund of 2000. But it appears that IRS has used a different formula. Instead of deducting from line 19, they have added up line 25a and line 28. Which resulted in line 19 being redundant and we ended up owing in 2021, i.e total tax due in line 24 is 4000 and 25a is 2800.

So, it seems the remaining 50% was more of a help from American rescue plan to ensure that we get 50% in monthly payments in advance, and that we don't end up owing taxes in 2021 filing.

A discrepancy was found on my return but I don’t know what it is…Did it affect my CTC and How do I know if I received all of my CTC?

The child tax credit was $3600 for children under 6 and $3000 for children between 6 and 17.  Last year, from July to December, half of that credit was sent to you in advance.  So if you had a kid under 6 you got $300 a month and over 6 you got $250 a month.  So you got half up front.  Then you were supposed to add up how much you got in advance and report it when you did your tax return.  If you reported the wrong amount that you got in advance then you created a discrepancy which will delay your return and reduce your refund.
