I received the $600 in December so claimed it on the 2020 tax. The 1444-B confirmed receipt. Turbotax included the amount on the filing.
Do you remember if you entered 1200 in the first box for the first round and the 600 in the second box? I was just testing and if you entered the full 1800 in the first box then it gave you the 600 for the second one again. You had to enter the right amount for each round in the boxes.
It depends on what your issue is. To clarify, is your answer answered in the previous posts? Post back with an answer so I can answer your question specifically so you can get full value and benefit of our service.
@wilso3jd - are you asking why Line 30 (the recovery rebate) is autofilled? as long as you tell TT how much you received for the 1st two stimulus payments, the rest is just math based on an IRS worksheet and the result is Line 30.
if you take your dependents, filing status (married / single) and income on your 2020 tax return and subtract the first two stimulus payments received, the result is Line 30.
what is your specific issue now that I have explained that?
I actually stated that I did receive both the 1st and 2nd stimulus on my return and Turbo Tax still added the $4000 to line 30. Why if I specifically said I received the correct amount both times would they add that to line 30 now there's a delay on my refund which has me very upset. So if the IRS doesn't catch this error and readjust my refund I will for sure be giving that $4000 back to them. I didn't notice it until after the IRS accepted my refund I just don't understand...
@acorbett1234 - now i understand..... I suspect you filed prior to Feb 12.... I have seen a number of posts from other users and I suspect that TT had a bug that they really weren't upfront about to it user base.
Yes I did file prior to Feb 12....
I received a letter saying I was owed $600. But it was never deposited into my account
Was it the 1444 letter saying they had sent you the $600? Or a letter saying you owe $600 from your tax return? If it was the 1444 B letter then you need to contract the IRS to trace it.
Maybe some of these FAQ will help. See missing payments
https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment-frequently-asked-questions#missing
The 1444 letter was for the first stimulus payment ... the 1444 B was for the second stimulus payment and the 1444 C is for the third stimulus payment.
The first 2 stimulus payments are reconciled on the 2020 return and the third on the 2021 return. If you got a notice that a payment was sent and you did not receive it then you cannot apply for it on the 2020 return instead you must put a trace on the payment. If you put it on the 2020 return then expect the IRS to correct this "math error" and adjust the bottom line of the form 1040 accordingly.
Taxable income $157,615. Turbo tax entered $2,838 Recovery rebate. IRS doesn't like it.
You had the 2,838 entered on 1040 line 30? Did you already get the first and second Stimulus payments? Line 30 is only if you qualify for more.
That's been a common problem. You might have answered the Stimulus questions wrong and tried to claim it again or some more on line 30. So the IRS took it off because you already got it. They know they sent it to you.
Turbo Tax automatically filled out the Recovery Rebate Credit Worksheet for us and came up with a $2866 credit. The IRS sent us a letter saying we are not entitled to a credit because we made over the $150,000 limit. We made $157,338, well under the $20,000 stated maximum overage. What do we do now?
We did not fill in the form. Turbo Tax filled in the form automatically. No facts have changed. Is your form wrong? It seems that the IRS is saying that there is no allowance for going over by up to $20,000? Or, is the IRS wrong?

Did you already receive both of the stimulus payments?
Go to this IRS website for your tax account and see if the IRS sent you the payments already - https://www.irs.gov/payments/view-your-tax-account
