My wife and I file jointly, do we both need to enter the advanced child tax credit payments or just one? This makes a differance of $3000 or $1500, we only got $1500!?!

The overall amount of payment is $1500, but it asks for an amount from both of us, that brings the total to $3000 and takes the same amount out of our return. So, do I just enter the amount in one of the fields or split it between the 2?

You only need to put on Schedule 8812 what you received in advance. My wife and I each received an IRS Letter 6419 showing she got some and I got some but it added to what we received. If only one of you got letter that shows the entire advanced payments then list that on Schedule 8812 and put zero for the other spouse.

The IRS is sending out letter 6419 to you.  It will show the amount of advance child tax credit that you received during 2021.  Enter the information from that letter carefully.   The remaining amount of CTC that you can receive will show up on line 28 of your 2021 Form 1040.

You and your wife will each get a letter from the IRS showing how much was paid to each of you. In TurboTax enter the amount from your letter for you, and the amount from your wife's letter for her. Enter the exact amount shown in each letter. Do not file your tax return until you get the IRS letters. Since you are claiming the Child Tax Credit, the IRS cannot send you your refund until late February, so there is no benefit in rushing to file early.
