My Medical Expenses summary says "Needs Review" in red ink but there appears to be no reason for this. How do I clear this statement?

My medical expenses are not included in my overall expenses as a result of this statement and I have been unable to clear the statement.

If it is stuck, deleting the worksheet and re-entering should clear that Review prompt and update the summary.

Note the amounts currently entered in this section, before you delete the worksheet.

To delete a the Medical Expenses Worksheet, you can use Delete Forms

  1. In the left menu, select Tax Tools
  2. Select Tools
  3. Select Delete a form
  4. Scroll to the Medical Expenses Worksheet (below Schedule A) and click Delete on the right
  5. Then scroll to the bottom and select Continue with my return

Then, return to Deductions and Credits and the Medical section and continue through all of the questions in Medical Expense

It should now clear the review message.

Unfortunately, that did not work.  I am convinced that it is a glitch in the TurboTax soft wear as I noticed when I got into the community that there were several others who had the same problem.  I would think that Turbo Tax would monitor these questions and responses and when they have seen several with the same issue would take action.  I guess I am wrong.

Most people don't benefit from medical deductions or from itemizing their deductions in general, so if you don't itemize your deductions you could try deleting the schedule A and that may resolve your issue. However, sometimes your itemized deductions are beneficial on your state tax return even though they don't help on the federal return. If you delete your schedule A and find your tax goes up, then you would have to have to re-enter your itemized deductions, but minus the medical expenses.

Here is how you could delete your schedule A:

  1. Click on Tax Tools in the left menu bar
  2. Click on Tools
  3. Look under Other Helpful Links and choose Delete a form

Find the schedule A in the list and click on the delete icon to remove it.

I tried this solution and it did not work.  I'm of the opinion that there is a software problem based on the number of other users experiencing the same issue.

You need to review all the questions pertaining to them, the review clears when the screen returns to the Deductions summary screen and there are no errors in the return.  Do not exit the interview process until you see the Right now, the Standard Deduction saves you the most on taxes screen or the This year, you get a tax break for your medical expenses screen and click Done.

Also, make sure your software is up to date if you are using a CD/Download version of TurboTax.  To check for updates if you're on a PC, open TurboTax and select Check for Updates from the Online menu near the top.
