Married filing jointly

If I get married this year.  Can I file jointly with my employed husband, and still get the child tax credits?  I am not employed.  Also is there a time frame for which we would have to be married to do so?

Congratulations - you need to be married by the last day of the year to file jointly and yes you will be eligible to get the Child Tax Credit (the amount will be reduced if your adjusted gross income exceeds $400,000 for married filing jointly).

Will I need an income in order to file with him and us still get the credit?  Thank you!!

No you don’t need income.  Only 1 of you to get the Child Tax Credit.  You would both need income to get the Child Care Credit.

It will be based on your joint income.  It will be reduced if your federal income tax is less than the potential Child Tax Credit amount.   The link in the original post has further details.
