If you itemize deductions, you will be able to use the amount in Box 14 as a charitable deduction. Depending on the code you enter, the program may enter it automatically.
Enter the Box 14 description/code from your Form W-2 in the first field in the row for Box 14 (e.g. NONTX PK).
If the Form W-2 does not have a Box 14 description/code, leave the first field in the row for Box 14 blank.
My charitable contributions (automatically deducted from my paycheck) are listed in box 14 of my W-2 with a classification of “Other”. Wondering if I should list this as “Other” in TT or as a “Charitable cash contribution”. Will classifying as “Other” change the manner in which this entry is calculated and not count it as a charitable donation for tax purposes?
No...just mark it as being a Charitable Cash Contribution.....that's the proper category
It will then automatically get included in your Charitable contributions for possible income deduction, if you end up itemizing.
Yes. If you choose Other, it will not affect your income tax return and the deduction will not flow to Schedule A. However, if you choose Other, you can enter your contributions yourself under charitable donations in Deductions and Credits.
