I purchased an asset for $25,000 and want to deduct the full value under Section 179. Why is the deduction only $18,000?

My understanding is that I can deduct the full value.

There are limitations, business income, filing status, and business % use are the first to spring to mind. See About Publication 946, How To Depreciate Property. Sec 179 begins on page 17.
